The Melbourne Cup is, of course, one of the world’s greatest horse races.  And the local newspapers made a really big thing of it in the early 1900’s, including fictional offerings along with all the “factual” information.  With an Irish father and a great love of horses, Mary Grant Bruce had plenty to offer The Leader (Victoria) in that regard, and she did.
